Even with ultra marathon running,
ingestion of carbohydrate during the event remains very important. And in some
very well-known events such as the Comrades Marathon in South Africa for
instance, which is an anti kilometre event. One often finds that runners are
doing very well. And then towards the end of the race they get into trouble,
so to speak. And often that is due to hyperglycemia. So even in these very long
distance events a regimen of carbohydrate supplementation becomes
very important to ensure an adequate performance, and a good performance.
