How to Gain Weight Fast but Safely

– About 2/3 of people in the US are either overweight or obese. However, there are some people who have the opposite
problem of being too skinny. This video looks at some simple strategies to quickly gain weight in a healthy way. Being underweight is defined
as having a body mass index or BMI below 18.5, although
know that BMI measurements on their own are not perfect. In the US, 1% of men and 2.4% of women 20 years and older are underweight. According to one study, being
underweight was associated with a 140% greater risk
of early death in men and 100% in women. These were actually higher
than the risks for obesity. There are also some people
who are not clinically underweight but still want
to gain some muscle and mass. Now for either scenario, the
main principles are the same. The most important thing to gain weight is to eat more calories
than your body burns. If you don’t do that, then you
simply won’t gain any weight. The quickest way to
determine your calorie need is to use a calorie calculator which I’ll link up in
the video description. Now keep in mind that calorie calculators only provide estimates. Binging on soda and donuts
may help you gain weight, but that’s not the right kind. It’s actually very important
to eat mostly healthy foods so that you build muscle and
still nurture metabolic health, which brings us to the next point. The single most important nutrient for gaining healthy weight is protein. After all, muscle is made of protein. For weight gain, aim for
0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight or 1.5 to 2.2 grams of
protein per kilogram. You can even go above that if your calorie intake is very high. Healthy high-protein
foods include meats, fish, eggs, many dairy products,
legumes, and nuts. Protein supplements like whey protein can also be useful if you
struggle to eat large amounts. Although protein is king,
you’ll also need to eat a lot of carbs and fat throughout the day to exceed your calorie requirements so in this instance a
low fat or low carb diet probably won’t be very helpful. In order to make sure a
lot of the excess calories go to your muscles
instead of the fat cells, it’s really important
to start lifting weights or doing resistance exercises. The gym is the perfect
environment for this, and you should aim to train
two to four times per week. If you are new to it all, consider hiring a qualified personal
trainer at the beginning. At the end of the day, changing your weight is
a marathon not a sprint and that goes for either
losing weight or gaining it. And while it does take a lot
of time, if you are consistent, then you will find a lot
of success in the long run. Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this,

  1. Diet Plan called Fenoboci Diet Plan kept showing up here on many youtube and I thought they were scam. However after my work buddy follow it, and finally lost crazy amounts of weight with it without starving herself. I'm persuaded. Do not take my word for it, search for Fenoboci Diet Plan on google.

  2. Thanks for the video! I'm 12yrs old and I weigh around 35Kg… My aim is to gain 5-10Kg. But when I think about it, I'm trying to gain about a third of my weight which seems absurd to me D:
I want to gain weight because my arms look horrendous: my elbows are so pointy when I straighten them, it will stop making my mother comment on how "sajoy" (idk how to spell it, but that's how you pronounce small/skinny/lean in Thai) I am. It would also boost my confidence and tick that off of my Worry List (I still have dark elbows/knees, DISGUSTING acne and acne scars, hairy limbs and unsilky hair on the list). Thank-you for reading 🙂 I love reading about other people's lives so yeah!

  3. uhhhhh im 13 and I'm 35kg
i eat all the time, but I don't seem to gain any weight.
and for me, Ramadan was over and I've lost even more weight

  4. I eat a lot of food to gain weight faster, but I end up having diarrhea. Or just poop it out. I don’t usually eat a lot, so maybe that’s why I just poop it out? Example: I just eat one slice of pizza and I’m full. I’m eleven years old and 66 pounds. I don’t understand! I want to die. I can’t gain weight fast, and I’ve seen lots of videos about health risks of being underweight and I’m terrified! 😢

  5. I'm 13 and my bmi is 17.5 I don't like to eat but I eat bc I like it. I walk into my kitchen it's a grab and go then i wait till the next day to eat

  6. how are you including eggs and dairy, even meats as healthy sources of protein when so much science points in the other direction. Try to get the protein from plant sources whenever possible as they come without the saturated fats and cholesterol.

  7. My 3 boys are underweight
    Boys twin. Cody Carter
    Other boy 3

Cody and Carter weigh 26.2 pounds at 2 the docter said they need to weigh 30-40 pounds
LEVI is 3 and weighs 35.3 pounds need to weigh 40-45 pounds in still trying to find kid ideas cause they can't lift weights

  8. I’m 11 and weigh only 30.25kg I’m underweight i was diagnosed by my doctor when I was 8. I eat and eat but my arms are tiny sticks and my thighs are nonexistent. All my friends are on they’re period and have boobs but I don’t.

  9. I when I was 11 I was only 64 pounds then I went to my doctor and she told me I had to gain weight so after I turned 12 I was 72 pounds. In a few weeks I’m going to be 13 and I am now 89 pounds Im still underweight and still have to gain weight that’s my story.

  10. How to gain weight, raise you grocery bill another $100. Buy a gym membership and personal trainer +$$$ . Eat till you feel even more ill. Go broke! Thanks bud but not all people have money to increase monthly expenses.

  11. “If you are u are underweight make sure you eat a lot of nuts.”

thanks for wishing death on me I really appreciate it. I already want to die enough.
goddammit, sister pass me the peanut butter.

if you didn’t get it I have a severe peanut allergy.

so I have a SUPER fast metabolism and I can’t get nuts to help me gain weight so I don’t know what to do anymore. oOoo time for a story time one time in science class we were talking about metabolisms and idk why and idc and my teacher said that there are a few people who have very fast metabolism and he looked right at me so everyone else looked at me. worst day of my life and ever sense then I want to hide every single part of my body in every way shape and form. this was 6 months ago 😂

  12. So I am 13 and my BMI is 18.5 which isn’t horrible but my doctor did still say that I need to gain weight and I agree. I am small boned and 5,1 which is 2 inches shorter than the average height. I’m scared that I’m going to be short forever and that I won’t grow anymore. I try not to think like this but it’s true I worry that I’ll be too small and I’ll be behind on growth. My goal is to go from 100lbs to 135 and still be healthy. I want to grow!
